The fall trends behind our accessories edit
Nicolas Ghesquière’s iconic new bag for Louis Vuitton, Chanel’s chunky chain jewelry, Gucci’s swinging 60s snakeskin boots — for our latest lookbook dedicated to fall’s standout accessories, our Style Director, Molly Thompson, and Women’s Category Director, Sasha Skoda, were inspired by looks pulled straight from the fall runways. Louis Vuitton’s Malletage Alma BB may well be the bag of the season. Nicolas Ghesquière’s riff on the house’s classic Alma shape is crisscrossed by a pattern inspired by the lining of Louis Vuitton’s trunks. It feels very fresh and encapsulates Nicolas Ghesquière’s new direction and vision for Louis Vuitton.”
“Colorful skins are a big trend for fall,” says Thomspon. “We just got in Bottega Veneta’s Python Knot Clutch from the Fall 14 collection, but I also love the Céline cuff. It’s an accessible way to wear the look because you don’t have to commit to a handbag or a full-on snakeskin boot. It’s just a touch, and has clean, modern lines.”
It wouldn’t be a fall lookbook without cozy, luxurious pieces to keep out the cold. With colorful furs on the runway at Céline, Gucci and Marc Jacobs, there was a rainbow of options. “This season’s update to the boho look is so glamorous,” says Skoda. “The great thing about fall is you can dive into furs, leather, shearling — the textures take the bohemian look to the next level of luxury.”
For timeless looks that nodded to the current collections, Thomspon and Skoda turned to the classic combination of black and gold. Versatile, elegant and high contrast, “Black and gold is the ultimate glam look,” says Skoda. “It’s timeless, but these pieces from new collections put a fresh spin on it. From the classic Hermès Constance to a modern yet 60s-inspired Saint Laurent bootie, you can go both ways.”
